Spring ushers in a variety of native Northern Ontario birds who watch over the region from high above. Observing the many birds of Ontario takes patience, prominent vision, and a love for the outdoors. We always urge our guests to arrive with a sturdy fishing pole, a pair of trusty boots, and, of course, a pair of state-of-the-art binoculars. Birding is an acquired hobby, but it’s also one of the most challenging sports in North America.
Last year, we talked in detail about Northern Ontario’s premier snowmobile trails, wintertime family reunions, backcountry riding, and last-minute, late-season excursions. So, now it’s time to discuss our newest option: the most affordable backcountry snowmobile tours in Ontario.
We’ve quickly emerged as one of the premier Northern Ontario resorts thanks to our proximity to sensational walleye and pike fishing, easy access to invigorating ATV trails, and hand-delivered homemade dinners. While most guests prefer the amenities of our two and three-bedroom cabins, hundreds of families flock to our neck of the woods in RVs and truck-hauled campers. The highly-anticipated Elk Lake camping season is finally here!
We’re one of the only winter resorts in Ontario that provides snowmobile packages, which include overnight accommodations, hand-delivered warm meals, a sled workshop, and on-site saunas! We also now offer guided day-long excursions for experienced riders looking for even more untouched rugged terrain.
We’re still weeks away from our first snowfall here at Elk Lake Wilderness Resort, but that doesn’t mean we’re not already daydreaming about the start of the upcoming snowmobile season. Ontario is home to one of the longest networks of recreational snowmobile trails in the world. Two of the province’s most beautifully-groomed trails run directly through Elk Lake and eventually connect with dozens of other networks.
