Explore the Wilderness

Things To Do

Elk Lake Wilderness Resort is nestled right along the Montreal River and there is so much to do and see without having to leave the resort. There is something for everyone available to take in the natural beauty of the area.

Boating

Whether you bring your own boat or use one of ours, you will enjoy 41 kilometers of navigable waterway, accessible right from our convenient boat launch. If your package includes one of our quality boats, you will have your boat and motor prepared for you and ready to go when you arrive.

Fishing on the River

Walleye, Northern Pike, Perch, and Bass abound in our section of the Montreal River. With river depths varying from 4 to over 100 feet, tons of structure, in-flowing creeks and out-flowing rapids, the possibilities and fishing styles are endless. Whether you troll, bottom bounce, or cast into the weed beds, you’re bound to catch your limit of any of the species listed. A really great feature of Elk Lake Wilderness Resort is that we have access to bass fishing year round! No need to wait; lots of 4 – 5 pound bass are there to be caught first thing in the spring!

Prepare your catch in our dedicated fish cleaning hut – you can eat it right away, or we’ll store it for you to take home. We’ll even smoke it for you!

Back Lake Fishing

If you want an even more exciting adventure, you can arrange a trip to one of the dozens of secluded back lakes all within a short drive of our resort, where the walleye, pike or various species of trout hit your line like nowhere else, and the scenery is unforgettable. Not only that, most times your group will be the only people you see! A guided back lake adventure can be arranged!

ATV Trails

Northeastern Ontario, and the Elk Lake area in particular, offer some of the best ATV riding experiences you will find anywhere!  With hundreds of kilometres of crown land to explore, you can ride for days and not see the same thing twice.  Abandoned mines, spectacular views from the foothills of the Ispatina Ridge, and gorgeous lakes and rivers are only some of the sites you will see on your ride.  You may also see moose, beavers, otters….but you probably won’t see any other people all day.  Come back to a spectacular meal prepared just for you and delivered to your comfortable cottage.  No matter what type of ATV you ride, you won’t be disappointed with a stay at our beautiful resort.

Family Fun in the Sun

We love having families come to spend time here at Elk Lake. Not a day goes by in the summer where we don’t hear someone laughing with glee at our park, or running around with friends in the field by the horseshoe pit. Spend the day relaxing on our private beach, playing in the sand or splashing around in the water. For rainy days, we’ve also got lots of games and movies to borrow to keep you entertained.

Communal Firepit

After a long day on the water or soaking up the sun at the beach head on down to our communal firepit and enjoy a cozy fire. There is lots of room so you can meet up with friends or make new friends with other guests at the resort.
